Open Board Chair Positions      

PTA simply cannot run without its volunteers, and we would love to welcome some new folks aboard with the open positions listed below. Taking on a role in the PTA can be a very fun and rewarding experience! You get to know other parents and teachers, share some laughs with fellow chairs and board members, and, most importantly, bring amazing programming, events, services, and aid to our entire Koala community.

So ask yourself: do any of these descriptions sound like you?

“I love a good snack spread.”

Are you the type of person who isn’t content unless everyone around you is well fed and having a good time? Then you may be our next Hospitality Chair! The person in this role typically works with other Board members to organize refreshments and decorations for PTA meetings and events. We especially could use someone to help treat our hardworking staff with breakfast or lunch a few times a year. 

“I always read the fine print.”

Some of us are not only better at following rules — we revel in them. And that kind of point-of-order-finger-waving sensibility is exactly what we need in our Parliamentarian. The person in this role keeps the rest of the PTA in line by familiarizing themselves with parliamentary procedure and bylaws so that they can provide guidance to other Board members regarding said procedures and bylaws.

“I just saw this great idea for a class party on TikTok!”

Every classroom at La Madera has at least one Room Parent to plan celebrations, recruit volunteers, and organize gifts for teachers. But even the most experienced Room Parents could use guidance and leadership — that’s where the Room Parent Coordinator comes in. The person serving in this role typically distributes our Room Parent handbook at the start of the year, sends email reminders, sets up a couple check-in meetings, and helps coordinate Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week. 

“I have saved every drawing my child has ever done.”

Do you melt each time your Koala brings home a drawing or painting? Would you like to support the arts at La Madera? The Reflections Arts Program Chair plays a key role in helping La Madera students get (potentially national!) recognition for their art, music, dance choreography, filmmaking, photography, or literary work. In the fall, the Chair would collect submissions, review them, and ultimately select winners to move on to the District level competition. The theme for the 2025-2026 year is “I Belong!”

“Do you have a minute (or ten) for me to explain how this baking soda volcano works?”

If you have ever been to the PTA Meeting where our Science Fair Chair awards the winners of our annual Science Fair, you know just how resourceful, curious, and creative our Koalas can be with their science projects. From which common surface collects the most germs to the perfect cookie recipe, our Science Fair chair gets to review and judge all kinds of submissions. Recently we have done the Science Fair virtually, but if someone wants to try to bring it back in person, that’s an option as well!
